Bad Dad by David Walliams

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

Rating: 4/5

Summary:

The book is about a little boy, Frank, and his father, Gilbert. The father and his son live a quite poor life, with the father not working because he is injured. He lost his leg in one of his car racing competitions, which he used to always have as a car racer. After that injury he lost everything, his leg, his career, and even his wife, Rita, who left him after the accident. The only thing that stayed, was his son's support and love through it all.

Strengths:

I like that the story has a diverse range of many characters and places in the book. I also like how each character and "scene" is illustrated, allowing a wider space of imagination to readers. And absolutely love the father son bond in the story.

Weaknesses:

It has lots if action and drama, where it was a bit too much, making it less believable towards the end. And the illustrations aren't colored, they are monochrome, so maybe a little bit of color would be a good idea. Other than that, the book was great!

My Opinion:

In my opinion, I recommend this book highly. The bond between Frank and his father is amazing, so heart warming. The adventures they have and the harsh experience they went through, all put into an entertaining and fun book is wonderful. It has a great moral and message behind it for sure- family comes first no matter what.
