The story of James and the Giant Peach is about a little kid who flees an abusive household in a magical peach. Along the journey, he meets new people and experiences the delights of independence and companionship, which were previously foreign concepts to him.

Strengths of the story:

For young independent readers, James and the Giant Peach presents a fascinating, imaginative universe. Dahl's unusual array of characters, magical and scary scenarios, and extensive use of comedic poetry all contribute to this being a fantastic read-aloud novel.

Weaknesses of the story:

I wouldn’t change anything, I enjoyed the story and it’s short, funny and somewhat sad what I didn’t like we’re the abusive aunts who taunted James and made him eat their scraps and were very mean to him.

My opinion of the story:

James and the giant peach is a fascinating children's tale filled with adventure and memorable characters. The major character, as in many of Roald Dahl's finest works, is a poor, underprivileged boy, and witnessing James Henry Trotter climb from his humble status to become a leader with genuine friends is incredibly fulfilling. Dahl also incorporates humorous melodious poetry into his imaginative story, which adds to the book's appeal when read aloud.
