Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Rating: 4/5

Summary:

Little Women is an amazing book about 4 young girls who grow up to become successful and wise. Meg, the oldest of the sisters dreams of having nice things and a wealthy family. Jo, the tom boy of the family doesn’t care the least of what people think of her, and has a snappy temper. Beth, the most angelic sister of them all is ever so sweet and only focuses on helping the family, rain or shine she’s always out to help another. Amy, the youngest of the family began much of a brat, spoiled and foul tempered, she was bossy and cared little of work and more of play. In Part 1 of the book, the girls father is out in war and the poor family battles with struggles with money and character. As they grow older you can start to see the change in the characters, Meg with her want to be wealthy and pretty, Jo with her temper, and Amy with her character altogether. Beth, a girl with no need of change is such a dear, but was sadly plagued with sickness that slowly lead to her death on Part 2. As the three remaining women grow into adults and wives you can see the tremendous change they have all went through. In Part 2 the father has returned and Meg was now a wife/mother. Amy, soon after goes to Rome and Paris to sketch for her drawings, and Jo stays home to take Beth’s place after her untimely death. In the end all the girls marry (other than Beth) and have children of their own, happy and healthy, living there best lives.

Strengths:

I like this book very much as I am completely touched by Jo's character and positivity of the March family. Jo's character ,not only for being rebellious or boyish but for her fierce independence. about positivity of the march family, despite every difficulty they have, the family remains together. the relationship shared by the sisters is the best part they are very different and have the troubles and arguments but even so they share a lot of things.

Weaknesses:

I think some chapters in the book were useless and it was stretched out and made some parts not as interesting as others. In the book they used multiple names for characters which sometimes became confusing to me.

My Opinion:

Still in awe of this beautiful book, I'm at loss of words for the work is incredible. Loved this story ,so natural as itself is discussed in this book that jo likes detailing in her writing and most of the times she was asked to cut the story short to make it more impactful and strong. And in this book you can feel the detailing of characters, episodes ,and I think that is one of the reasons this novel connects us to story of marches more deeply.
