Summary:
The novel follows the lives of the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, as they mature, fall in love, and find their place in the world as they grow from childhood to adulthood. It is classified as an autobiographical or semi-autobiographical novel since it is loosely based on the author's and her three sisters' lives.
Strengths of the story:
From the concept, Little Women is a story that taught me to share with others, as well as an example that the beauty of life is still achievable in the lives of poor women. Because the novel has educational values, a positive message, and great role models, it is suitable for kids as well. There is nothing more valuable than having a family that supports each other. In Alcott's novel, the family is seen as the most important aspect since it gives its members with the courage and ability to overcome life's ups and downs and teaches the value of selflessness.
Weaknesses of the story:
The main weakness of this novel is thought to be Jo's characteristics. It is mentioned at the start of the novel that Jo hates men. The author of the book expresses her hatred in overt ways. This may become a weakness because the reader, specifically teenagers, will accept the value of the book.
My opinion of the story:
Little women by Louisa may Alcott is about four sisters living in the 1800’s. Was actually published in 2 volumes, Vol 1 which is the first half is about the girls in their adolescences, and Vol 2 the second half is about the girls navigating their adulthood. The whole plot of both volumes 1 and 2 has themes of love, independence, and even death. Even though it was written over 150 years ago, the characters and their experiences are still relatable. I highly recommend this book if you like coming of age stories that are funny and tender as well.
