Summary:
The story is about a girl called Katie Price, who has a rare disease that means if she has any exposure to the sun she could die. Katie Price can't go out in the day but always goes out at night. One day when she was out, she met the boy that she saw passing her window everyday as he skated to school. She loved the boy, even though she didn’t meet him once until now. When she met him, she decided not to tell him about her disease, just to gain a few days of being normal- her excuse for always meeting him at night was that she was "busy" in the day. After their relationship grew everyday, she still didn’t tell him. He wanted to surprise her with the sunrise one day and she realized what time it was and she kept running home, hoping that the sun wouldn’t touch her skin. Her dad was looking for her. She decided to end her relationship with the boy and focus on her health. Her dad saw how depressed she was getting and called the boy she was seeing, because she once said to him: "Life is meaningless if you had no one to spend it with". Little did her dad know that she was ready to give up on her medical condition. She said she wanted to go out in the sun on a boat, later she died and they all went there separate ways.
Strengths:
The story was very intriguing and different. It was beautiful because it shows reality and how things really end in the real world, not everything has a happy ending. The story was also very eye catching, as the author used the opportunity to tell a story and raise awareness of this disease (XP).
Weaknesses:
The story was kind of complicated, there was not enough depth in the characters and their history. It was very unoriginal, because I've recently read a story not so different from this one, except this one has a realistic ending. I would change the depth of the characters and there backstories/histories into a more interesting history. Also the settings, the places weren’t very detailed. And the story focused on only the perspective of Katie Price- I would have loved for it to have a perspective of her dad and the boy.
My Opinion:
I personally thought the story was a bit overrated because I didn’t see what was so special about it. It missed a lot of key elements to a great and successful story. The only things that made the story special were that they used the story to raise awareness of the disease and that they didn’t give a happy ending which made the story worth the read in the end.
