Summary:
Nerve is a story about a girl called Vee. After a conversation with her friends, she discovers that she isn't that daring to do anything life threatening or at least harmlessly fun in the new game called Nerve. In Nerve you can either be a player or a watcher and its a game not so different from truth or dare, but is extremely dangerous and has had many people killed. Vee decides to prove to her friends that she is outgoing and daring, she chooses to be a player and ends up getting a partner. As she continues the game with her partner Ian, she realises that the game is just killing people and is so dangerous. Ian explains to her that he lost someone he cared about because if he didn’t commit to the dare, Nerve would kill him. Both of them come up with a plan to stop the game that has gone out of control and end up saving everyone.
Strengths:
The story was very exciting and full of suspense. I loved Vee's character and how she shows care and compassion but also fun and outgoing. I really liked Ian's backstory, because at first he seems like a bad person who's gotten involved with this illegal game, but he turns out to be a very sensitive person that's just trying to save people from the power of this game.
Weaknesses:
The story had some spine chilling moments that made me think of the game realistically, so it was very emotionally engaging, but not in the way I'd hoped. The story involved so much dangerous situations with very young people watching, that wasn’t very unpleasant to read.
My Opinion:
Overall, the story was astonishing and so captivating, but to be completely honest I think I was captivated just to know the ending because it was very frightening to read through. I would definitely not read this type of genre again because it is clearly not my taste, although the story of the two saving everyone was very nice it wasn’t the best.
