Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens

Rating: 5/5

Summary:

The story revolves around the Nickleby family, which has been left without a father and is led by Nicholas Nickleby, a young man of 19. Nicholas uncle, is a wealthy who focuses on wealth and family ties, attempts to place Nicholas as a tutor at an only boys school. However, Nicholas finds that the master of this school is a cruel villain who unfairly punishes the boys, prompting Nicholas to attack out on his own, much to the urging of his uncle, who quickly becomes the novel's enemy.

Strengths

The strength of the novel that it is journalistic, the way in which various different worlds are written in, (such as the London moneylender, the Yorkshire school, and the touring stage company). The author wrote each scene of the story in detail, which is enough to imagine the plot perfectly.

Weaknesses:

One thing I did not enjoy is how the author left the characters bland. If I was the author, I would add more features and personalities to the characters to make the novel/story more realistic and fun.

My Opinion:

I enjoyed Nicholas Nickleby because it is primarily concerned with family relationships, including parents and children, siblings, and even extended relatives such as uncles, aunts, and cousins. It talks about relationships and how it leaves a huge impact to a person's physiological and emotional well-being which is very relatable to adolescents.
