Summary:
A girl named Alina Starkov the protagonist goes to the unsea " The Shadow Fold" as a work mission, but what she doesn't know is that she is Grisha 'a being with magic powers' and that her powers are of light. She is told that she is the one who could get rid of the Shadow Fold.
Strengths
The story was very entertaining, the atmosphere was very mysterious as we got to see things unfold with the main character. I loves that most of the book was the reader following Alina and understanding her as person as well as her relationship with the people surrounding her.
Weaknesses:
There were a lot of names that were very unfamiliar. Although the world building was amazing it was hard to keep up with all the made up names and occupations of every magical creature. I didn't really like how rushed the ending was, and the main character was very basic and didn't have any defining characteristics that made me like her.
Opinion:
The story as a whole a typical 'The Chosen One' trope. The main character was very flat to me and the male lead wasn't as interesting as I wanted him to be (I only got to know his personality from Alina's perspective and never understood what was going in his mind).
