Rating: 5/5
Summary:
Someone is murdering kids. Detective Kim Stone is about to discover that they've been murdering for even longer than everyone suspected. Will Stone, though, be able to save the killer before he strikes again?
Strengths:
DI Kim Stone was a fantastic character. Like an onion, this narrative was complicated and layered; as I read, I kept peeling away new layers to the actual case and what I think is part of the ongoing storyline. I'm a sucker for a good female detective, and this one didn't let me down.
Weakness:
The topic is sensitive because it includes crimes against young teenagers in England's welfare system, all of whom are considered worthless by their families and the people in charge of their well-being.
My Opinion:
I've been having trouble writing a review for this one because my emotions are all over the place. This novel was shocking and horrifying, which is just what I want in a book. Though it held my attention throughout, I had to read it in chunks because I needed to pace myself with the vivid information and material.
