Summary:
The Hate U Give is a book about racism and how a young girl, called Starr, spoke up about this issue. It focuses on the problem and especially the main character, Starr, as she witnesses the murders of her closest friends at a very young age. Besides the main story line, the character also speaks about the town she lives in, which was run by drug lords.
Strengths:
The story was powerful and very enlightening, I felt connected to the book emotionally only because of its description.
Weaknesses:
As much as it was a great book, some characters were too basic and not detailed enough. At parts of the book I felt a little lost because of the sudden change in events (but this could be a personal issue). It focused too much on the main character, Starr, I would’ve changed it into 3 to 4 peoples perspectives.
My Opinion:
It was great in some parts, but mostly confusing. Maybe if I read it another time I would understand it more. But my personal opinion is that it is a good book, just not the best. I did not agree with some of the author's character descriptions because it was very basic, it was only at the surface I would’ve liked to know more details.
