Summary:
Starr Carter is a 16-year-old black girl who lives in Garden Heights, a mainly poor black neighborhood. But she attends a successful, mostly white, private school, Williamson Prep. She's driven home by her childhood best friend Khalil after a shooting breaks up a party that Starr is attending. A white police officer stops them and ask Khalil to leave car, Khalil turns to check on Starr. Meanwhile the officer shot him three times which lead to his death. Starr’s uncle encouraged her to share her story with the people through media.
Strengths:
I liked how the author wrote a whole book about the discrimination in the USA and how some white police treat black people. I also liked how her uncle supported her to talk to the media about her friend's situation.
Weaknesses:
This book had no weaknesses, at least not to me. I think this book was meant to be read by teenagers and adults due to some events and language that kids won't understand. I think most of people will like it because it talks about our life and how discrimination is a huge part of it, many black people die without reason and this why this book should be read by everyone
My Opinion:
I really liked how someone would step out and write about the ugly discrimination in the USA. The book was amazing and the story was mind blowing, it meant a lot to me. To see how innocent people die for no reason and I agree with the author's point of view, discrimination should die!
