The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas

Mini Book Review

Rating: 4/5

Summary:

This was a very different book then what I've read before. This book talks about a girl in her teenage years struggling to live life normally because she is "dark skinned". People in her neighborhood were always chased by cops, shot, and they've never lived peacefully. Until she finally thinks this should be over when her bestfriend got shot by a cop doing nothing. As time goes by she grows up and learns so much and finally takes her and her neighborhoods rights from the horrible environment she was born into.

What I liked:

I loved the meaning behind the story, I loved how I got to experience and put myself in their shoes. I also loved how the author wrote the story, she new exactly how to layout everything the way its written and told really gets the big idea into the reader. It made me think so deeply of problems I never knew existed around me.

What I did not like:

I loved every aspect of the book, but if I had to change one thing it would be the ending I expected a life changing decision and a long ending, but got the complete opposite. The ending didn't make any difference which didn't compliment the book as much.

What I learnt:

If I had to choose what I've learned about the story it would be to never judge people no matter the skin, the size, the family, the life, the looks and so much more. I've learned to accept everyone big and small and that we are all the same at the end no matter the race. I've learned to be as helpful and kind to others as much as I can.
