The Outsiders by S.E Hinton

Summary:

One of the main characters is Ponyboy Curtis. He is a member of the Greasers, a gang of teenagers. He is attacked by a rival (enemy) gang after leaving the movie theater one day. Ponyboy is saved after his friends chase the group away. Ponyboy and his friends go to see a movie again the next evening. They take a seat behind a couple of attractive girls from the opposing gang. They end up in the same seat as the girls. Ponyboy and Cherry discover that despite being from different gangs, they have a lot in common. The boys start walking to the girls' house, but they run into the girls' boyfriends along the way. So that a fight does not break out, the girls must leave. Ponyboy's brother becomes enraged when he arrives home late. They begin to fight as a result of this. Ponyboy attempts to flee his home as a result. They reunite with the rival gang, and yet another brawl ensues. One of the enemies is killed this time. Ponyboy is extremely frightened. They hide in a church and dye (color) their hair to disguise their appearance. The two gangs get into a number of different fights. Ponyboy eventually wakes up in the hospital.

Strengths:

It’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming. It changed into actually hard studying approximately Johnny’s terrible state of affairs at domestic and the dying of Ponyboy’s parents, now no longer to say the tragic conclusion.

Weaknesses:

The absence of nuance. Personally, I believe Hinton could have been more subtle in his treatment of the novel's themes and moral lessons. I realize this seems like a minor quibble, but some statements are so obvious that they make the reader feel as if the book was written for someone much less perceptive or capable of deciphering meaning on their own

My Opinion:

Overall, The Outsiders is a moving and inspirational story about perseverance, friendship, and overcoming adversity. After finally finishing this novel, it's clear why it's still a must-have for any young adult or adult literature collection
