Summary:
This book is the sequel of "the maze runner", continuing the story of Thomas and his friends to defeat W.C.K.D . After the teenagers escape the maze in the first book we are left at a cliffhanger. They are rescued by people who are against the maze and the ways of W.C.K.D, transported to another outpost. As everyone is happy they made it out, Thomas is suspicious about this new outpost and his assumptions were true when he found out that the rescuing, the deaths, the outpost was all fake. Thomas and his friends try to escape and continue their journey looking for survivors.
Strengths:
I like the beginning because it felt more familiar to the first book and it was the part that I was looking most forward to since the first book ended without an actual ending. I especially liked when Thomas was investigating and sneaking around to prove to his friends that he was right and that they were all still in W.C.K.D.
Weaknesses:
I didn't like that there was a cliffhanger ending. I would change Winston’s death to a later part in the story instead of in the middle, for example when they make it to the right arm but they can’t treat him.
My Opinion:
I personally loved the story, but it felt completely different than the first book. The first book was the best out of the two I've read so far. I wasn’t happy when I read the cliffhanger ending, but I'm glad I get to read another book and maybe finish the book series. I would change some parts, but overall it was a great book!
