The Secret of Nightingale Wood by Lucy Strange

Rating: 4/5

Summary:

This book is about a family that moved to a house in nightingale wood. The main character is called Henry who is a twelve year old girl who loves to read and loves her family dearly. She discovers the enchantments in nightingale wood and helps bring back her family together after they have drifted apart due to her brothers death and her mother's illness and her father's travels.

Strengths

I loved the plot of the story and that as you go further into the book there are twists which makes it the more interesting to read. I also loved the settings in the story. I also loved how the author described the setting which is why I loved the setting, she makes you imagine the setting easily. I think also the moral of the story is beautiful. It shows how much one could do for their family because of how much they love them.

Weaknesses:

I think what I didn't like was the doctor in the story that was treating the mother. I know every story should have a person who is the enemy. But I think that the enemy in this story made doctors look bad. It made me afraid of doctors in general. Also as someone in the health cluster, it made me have second thoughts about being a doctor. I know it is silly but it happens. Other than that I don't think the book has many weaknesses, it is a great read for teenagers or really any person at any age. What I hated was that the author wrote this book in 2016 and stopped. It was a bummer but I am glad that she has written new books.

My Opinion:

In my opinion I think this book is great and I would definitely recommend it. But I don't think it's a more than one time read. A book that you would want to read again. Because once you read it once and know what is going to happen then I don't think you would have the interest in going back to reading it once more.
