*SPOILER ALERT *

Rating: 5/5

Summary:

The story consisted of a group of cousins and one outsider (2 boys and 2 girls), a group of aunts and one granddad. The main character (also the narrator) is Cadence Sinclair. The story started off with all the cousins being all close together, being best friends. Cadence Sinclair falls in love with the outsider which is a friend of one cousin. They come to a beach house every summer to spend their summer together. During summer 15, Cadence got into an accident and the author didn’t mention what it was at first, but she suffered from migraines and headaches and lost her memory to how she got into the accident. She goes back to the beach house during summer 18 and she’s back with her friends (she calls them the liars). After she started getting her memory back, she remembered how the aunts started getting in constant fights with their dad about money and decided to leave the house for the night. She then remembered how she was crying in her lovers arms (the outsider, Gat) she said she didn’t want to leave him and doesn’t want to be separated from him. The cousins then decide to set the whole house on fire in order to destroy everything the aunts are fighting over (the money). Cadence set the whole bottom area on fire while the others are still upstairs. She came running back into the house to save them but they were all dead. After Cadence remembered all that, the cousins she was seeing after her accident were all hallucinations. they really were gone.

Strengths:

The way it had a sudden plot twist and it was not expected it all. I also liked how the story started out really calm then gradually started getting more interesting. I can also relate with the main character, Cadence, because I’m the type to regret everything that happens and blame myself for a lot of stuff.

Weaknesses:

I honestly don’t think there’s something that I would change except the ending. If the ending was a happier ending it would’ve prevented the reader from crying their eyes out. For example, Gat and Cadence live happily ever after instead of Gat dying in the fire.

My Opinion:

I’ve never cried this much over a book 😭😭 definitely will recommend this book to my enemy. I honestly love this book so much but it’ll take time for me to recover from the pain that I felt from it. I also loved how she mentioned how much Cadence tried her best to regain her memory.
