Wilder Girls by Rory Power

Rating: 5/5

Summary:

A deadly illness known as "the Tox" impacts a group of teen-aged girls as well as the animals on the boarding school grounds. The girls are battling for life against the disease's ravages and a lack of food after being quarantined for more than a year on the otherwise abandoned island.

Strengths:

This book is written in such a special manner that I've never read anything like it before. It is, without a doubt, my current favorite book. Characters that are amazing and lovable, with twists and mysteries.

Weaknesses:

I'm so frustrated and disappointed because I had high hopes for it, but it was nothing short of a disaster. When reading it, I didn't understand anything. At least another 100 pages should have been added to this book.

My Opinion:

The conclusion was hurried. All was fantastic, but the plot lacked cohesion. What happened to the other girls, for instance? Was Hetty simply unconcerned with them? About the fact that she was going to murder the headmistress for leaving the students, she is now abandoning them. Overall, the story was satisfactory, but I wished for more information and closure. There is a lot of feeling in the content. The characters and the forest's dangers are both fierce and strong. I'm blown away.
