References & Citations

If you use information from a book, article, website or any other source, you must acknowledge the original author or creator of this information to avoid plagiarism. To do this, you should include in-text citations and references in your work.

References and in-text citations provide information about the original author or source of information. If you have used information or ideas in your work that are not your own, adding a reference and in-text citation allows you to acknowledge the original author and avoid plagiarism. This also allows someone else to find and check the information that you have used.
-
References provide the full information about a source. This includes the authors name, date of publication, title of the work, and the publisher or web address. References are all listed alphabetically on a separate page, called the reference list, at the end of the report.

-
In-text citations provide a short acknowledgement of the original author and date of publication in the body of the writing. The in-text citation is added at the end of a sentence or paragraph. For every citation in the text, a complete reference must be provided in the reference list and visa-versa.

Each different style or method has specific rules regarding the format and structure of citations or references. Our school uses the APA style.
