The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

Rating: 3/5

Summary:

The Old Man and also the Sea is about a battle between an old fisherman named Santiago and a huge marlin. Santiago had been at sea for 84 days without catching a fish, which is seen as "salao", the worst kind of unluckiness. he's so unlucky that his young apprentice, Manolin, has been forbidden by his parents to sail with him and has been told instead to fish with successful fishermen. The boy visits Santiago's shack each night, hauling his fishing rig, preparing food, talking about American baseball and his favorite player, Joe DiMaggio. Santiago tells Manolin that on the following day, he will venture far out into the ocean current, north of Cuba within the Straits of Florida to fish, confident that his unlucky streak is near its end.

Strengths

The thing that I liked was that the fisherman started thinking with his mind and did not hear anyone’s words and did not make anyone else, and he started thinking with himself until he got an excellent idea to catch a good fish in it to sell it at a special price.

Weaknesses:

What I did not like was that the fisherman had lost hope and had never tried to catch the fish that had no luck. And he did not try until after his extension and did not get enough experience from the successful fishermen.

My Opinion:

It is a wonderful story in which there are many lessons learned that we must apply in our lives to succeed and become our life full of success, and I have learned that self-reliance is an important thing that must be within every human being.
