You wake up and it's a lovely morning, but your body
wants to go back into the peaceful slumber that you
were in. The mattress dips and rustles as you stretch
your limbs releasing a satisfied grunt. But then the
alarm goes off like a screeching cat and you wonder,
looking at it, why is it ringing at 8 am?
Oh no, your first class just started!
You rush off out of bed, storming hurriedly
towards your laptop, chilling in the corner of your room
as it charges. As soon as you click the join button to the
meeting, started by the teacher, you hear her calling
your name. Faster than the speed of light you click
open your mic and yell "HERE!".
A beat of silence passes and the teacher moves
on to call out another girl’s name, meaning you’re in the clear.
You sigh deeply and feel your body sag on the chair
like a sack of potatoes. Hmm... Take that back, maybe
potatoes have it better than you. But then your
laptop pings and a reminder creeps out from the
side of the screen, bold letters pile onto each other
forming the words ‘Report due’. A foreign sound of
whimpering comes out of your mouth as you force
your mind to get up and start working, which report
was it? Is it the Chemistry’s temperature measuring
simulator or was it the health class’s epipen
research? Either one, you haven’t even started on
either of them.
A gasp escapes from your lungs, not because you're
surprised by yourself or the amount of work that you
have pilling up but rather because you’re
disappointed. Wasn’t it just yesterday that you handed in
a presentation and now you have ten more things
pending, waiting for your attention? Didn’t all the
teachers say that they understand that these times are
difficult and they’ll try to make it easier it for you?
Now the morning doesn’t feel so lovely anymore, it's
bleak and dull. You realize the first thing you did
waking up was to sit in front of a screen, like it's a
normal occurrence. You get this strong urge to
crawl your way back into bed and bury yourself
under the heavy blanket, like a hug so warm and
comforting, taking your mind off of the things you ought
to be doing.
Your heart aches. You know which one’s the right
option, unfortunately the bad one seems much more
serene...
