“Edith! Come downstairs, I have some news for you!”
Why is mom calling me downstairs? I’m sure I haven’t done anything, hang on, did she mention news? What kind of news, is it from school? I remember entering a couple competitions, but the results shouldn’t be coming out this early, or maybe it’s personal news? I hurry downstairs to meet my mom to receive this news. My heart raced as I heard my mother's voice calling me from downstairs. "Edith! Come downstairs, I have some news for you!" Her tone was laced with a mix of excitement and something else I couldn't quite decipher. Panic surged through me, and my mind raced with a whirlwind of questions.
I took the stairs two at a time, my footsteps echoing through the house. Each step felt like an eternity as I tried to prepare myself for whatever awaited me in the living room. Had something happened to a family member? Was it about my competitions? A thousand scenarios played out in my mind, each one more dramatic than the last.
When I reached the bottom of the stairs, my mother stood there with a beaming smile, her eyes sparkling with tears of joy. She extended her hand toward me, inviting me to come closer. Her voice quivered with emotion as she said, "Edith, sit down, sweetheart. I have some incredible news to share with you."
I felt a lump in my throat, a mixture of fear and anticipation. I took a seat on the couch, my hands trembling as I clasped them together. "Mom, what's going on? Why do you look so happy?" I couldn't help but stammer.
With a deep breath, she began to speak, her words filled with a warmth that enveloped me. "Edith, you remember those competitions you entered, right? The ones you worked so hard for?" I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. "Well," she continued, "you won. You won both of them."
Tears welled up in my eyes as the realization hit me like a tidal wave. I had poured my heart and soul into those competitions, doubting my abilities every step of the way. But now, my mother's words washed away all my insecurities and self-doubt. I had achieved something remarkable.
My mother reached out and held my hands in hers, her eyes brimming with pride. "You did it, Edith. You proved that hard work, determination, and believing in yourself can lead to incredible success."
I couldn't contain my emotions any longer. Tears streamed down my face as I hugged my mother tightly. The joy, relief, and sense of accomplishment overwhelmed me. In that moment, I knew that I could achieve anything I set my mind to, and it was all thanks to my mother's unwavering support and the incredible news she had shared.
