Do You Take Me for a Fool?

Updated: Mar 15, 2021

| One cannot be brave who has no fear.

You're an awful and a sorry excuse for a human being!" Yelled a man in raggedy clothes as he was

pulled away by two muscled guys in black. The one being yelled at was standing at the porch dressed in a navy suit that hugged the man’s body like a glove, one hand tucked in his pocket while the other held a cup of coffee. He kept staring at the guy that was led away but not to the front door, from where he came in, rather to the shed far in the corner of the luxurious house. Tucked away from anyone’s

lingering and questioning eyes.

"Dad?"

A small voice called out to him pulling him out of his trance and back to reality. The man turns around to face his son standing at the front door, having just woken up by the noise so early in the morning. A fine young man with the silkiest brown hair and the most captivating golden orbs. But,

unfortunately, those eyes of his hold a knowing and fearful look. If it were someone else, the father

would’ve already gauged their eyes out, but this is his son - his whole life.

"Yes, my boy?"

The older man asks in a gentle tone, though betrayed by his studying and strict gaze. His

jaw twitches, knowing what his son is going to ask of him, yet he still keeps up his composure.

"What are you going to do to him?"

He asks, his eyes peek through his lashes to look at his father’s face for a reaction, but was only met with a stoic demeanor.

"Nothing much, what did you think I was going to do to him?"

The older man says in a tone feigning ignorance as he sips his coffee and it trickles down his throat in comforting warmth. Meanwhile, the boy just stares at the ground as if it’s far more interesting.

"He…looks like he has…a kid."

He says as if it’s something his father should’ve considered before taking the man away to wherever his blood would spill.

"Alright, and what’s the use of that fact?"

His father asks with intrigue and a spark in his eyes, as to what his son is implying. The boy standing in front of him may look naïve to some, if judged by his appearance, but the boy knows far more than he lets on and he goes on a roundabout way when talking about it.

Though it looks like the boy swallowed his tongue, he bit his lips and shook his head in defeat, too

scared to breach the topic. A sinister feeling blooms in his father’s chest, he steps closer and hugs his boy and pats his back.

"Go and get dressed, your tutors will be here shortly."

He whispers, he lets go and heads inside when he hears his son speak up.

"Do you take me for a fool, father?"

He says, jaw firm and voice even and unwavering. His father turns around and looks at his son’s back unmoving and strong, though his shoulders shake. That pulls a smile from him.

"No, of course not."
