Silence

For a long time, no one spoke.

What was there left to say? She’s spent too much time hurling insults and apologies to consider speaking. Where did it all go wrong? Mara could remember the days when the sun shone bright and the seas were full of life and wonder, she spent so long blaming Tyr that she never realized it wasn’t him. All he’d done was try to shield himself from her accusations but it was too late for that now.

“Isn’t it beautiful?” Rue whispers before walking away. A cold detached look on her face, reminding Mara and Tyr of a god surveying his first creation.

“Why?” Mara asked after Rue had walked off, leaving her in the broken remains what might’ve been California months ago, before Rue’s plan came into fruition, before the sky turned red and the air filled with ash.

“Guess she finally broke…” Tyr muttered. She now realizes how little they thanked her for all she did. How did she ever think she was the hero? She never stopped to consider diplomacy running into fights with nothing and stubbornly trying to pin the blame on an innocent man, she didn’t even stop to consider her allies feelings.

For a long time, no one spoke.

“I hope you enjoyed the show” Rue exclaims, Tyr turns around to look at her Mara too lost in her sorrow to do so.

“I’m so sorry our time together is coming to a close, but before you leave, I must thank you!” She had a bright childish grin on her face that had no right to exist on a blood covered face.

“Without you I would’ve never been able to do all of this! I’m a builder first and foremost but this was more fun than anything I’ve ever made!” Mara notices that her voice has takes on a manic edge, cold and cruel. It was the last thing she thought before Rue took her life along with Tyr’s.

Rue sits down a short distance away. She’d never been more at peace, the voice demanding vengeance finally satisfied. She admired the dark beauty around her for the last time.

For a long time, no one spoke.

“How do we recover” A voice asks. A long way away.

For a long time, people spoke. Years later, they recovered but for now? For now there was only silence and hope for the future.
