Something Meaningful Someone Told Me

One of the meaningful moments that happened to me was when my best friend made me feel better about myself because a girl body shamed me. As a child I was body-shamed a lot I tried to dis-acknowledge it, although it affected my mental health. It was exhausting and a rough period of time. I felt so weak, frustrated, and so fed up. I tried to forget the moment I was called “fat”, however the memory kept on flashing back. Not to mention, I would sometimes feel bad about myself and try to do anything to lose weight., such as not eat at all and push myself to work out a bit. It was so unhealthy, as well as difficult because I was really lazy as I child, yet I kept on trying to motivate myself hard.

One day one of my closest friends came over to me and noticed that I was unhappy, she asked me: “How are you feeling? Is there something wrong with you, you seem kinda down today?” I started telling her about why, lately, I have been feeling so down. She opened my eyes and made me realize a lot. She said people's opinions are so irrelevant because they want to make you feel less beautiful. Even though, you know for a fact you are beautiful the way you are and you’re strong enough to not let them get into your nerves. As well as, to care less about people's opinions and learn to love yourself and be secure in who you are and you’ll be fine and happy.

What she said impacted my life and made me not care about anyone’s opinion because I know better and I’ll be myself regardless of anything that happens. Also, I have a message to anyone who body shames other people: Just worry about yourself and stop bringing other people down just to entertain yourself, it’s just unnecessary, and start spreading positivity instead.
