A beggar discovered an expensive diamond without knowing its worth. He fastened it on his donkey's ear. A diamond dealer saw what was going on and approached him, saying, "Give me this stone, and I will give you the money you desire."
"Pay me a rupee and keep the stone," he said.
"A rupee is too much for me; I will pay 50 paise," the diamond merchant reasoned.
"No worries," the beggar responded, "let the stone be in my donkey's ear," and began traveling.
The diamond trader assumed that the beggar would give it to him anyway for 50 paise. Meanwhile, another diamond trader purchased the beggar's stone for 1000 rupees. The first diamond dealer was taken aback and yelled at the beggar, "Oh, you moron! You just sold diamonds worth crores for a thousand and walked away happy."
After hearing him, the beggar chuckled "Who is the moron in this situation? I don't know what the diamond's true value is, so I sold it for $1,000, which is large money for me. But you know how much it is worth, and yet you sold it for 50 paise. What a moron!"
Moral: Never give up your treasured life for fleeting enjoyment.
