Summary:
Chris Bailey began to notice that his life was a sequence of screens, beginning with his phone and progressing to his iPad while eating breakfast, then to his laptop while his smart watch rang and beeped, distracting him. Chris Bailey chose to do an experiment in which he used his phone, the device on which he spent the majority of his time, for only 30 minutes per day for a month. As a result of this experiment, he gained time to improve his attention span, generate more ideas, and make more plans.
What did you learn?
Disconnecting from the virtual world has taught me that focusing on the present and future is much easier. I personally spend or waste the majority of my time on social media, it's terrible, and I waste a lot of time that I could be doing something more beneficial for myself. Usually, when I have free time, I check the latest news on social media and watch series and shows that don't really matter to me, I'm just wasting time. Chris Bailey's experiment grabbed my attention, and I'm excited to give it a shot.
How will you use the information?
This discussion drew my attention to the amount of time I waste on the internet doing nothing useful and wasting valuable time. Spending time with my family, learning new things, or even attempting a new recipe is far more beneficial than gazing at a screen for hours.
Who would enjoy this talk?
I advise teenagers and anyone who spends more than three hours on a screen doing things that aren't beneficial to their wellbeing to do something else, life is brief, and staring at a screen for hours and hours is pointless, there is a lot in life that anyone can discover.
