"The clues to a great story" by Andrew Stanton

Watch the TED Talk here.

Summary:

"We invent ourselves stories to live," Joan Didion famously said. She was absolutely correct. The company has become a character. You must tell a story if you want more resources. Nothing appears to get done these days without using Presentation. Nancy Duarte has mastered the art of using presentations to communicate tales. Companies want their products to play a role in the story. Many of us are aware of the components of a good story. All we must do now is recall it from our childhood. As Tyler Cowen has pointed out, storytelling has its drawbacks. Difficulty is handled with by creating simple narratives. Many of us fail if, as F. Scott Fitzgerald put it, "the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to keep two opposed concepts in mind at the same time and yet operate." Filmmaker Andrew Stanton (Toy Story, WALL-E) adds to our increasing body of narrative expertise by sharing what he knows about storytelling, starting at the end and moving backwards.
