Summary:
The TED Talk provides insight into reasons why people may avoid speaking up in political matters because of the obstacles society puts on that kind of participation, in order to stop them from speaking on those matters, including media, heroism, elections, and public spaces. These barriers prevent people from intervening or expressing their opinions on local political matters.
What did you learn?
I learned that people's apathy to political issues is the result of multiple factors that could change and get people to speak up about their opinions and what they think should change and what shouldn't, since it all directly affects them. This changes the common belief that individuals are "stupid" or "lazy".
How will you use the information?
This TED Talk changed my opinion in people who don't share their points of views on political matters, and made me take into consideration the factors that might've contributed to restraining their opinions.
Who would enjoy this talk?
I think my classmates would enjoy this talk, as we have had multiple debates on similar matters, so this might benefit them and help them consider external factors when speaking about such topics.
